ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Like many, Ashley found her love of theater at a young age. She became involved in a community theater in Louisiana at the age of 4 where she performed in many diverse shows. She also began singing and dancing at this time. She sang solos at church through children’s choir and took dance classes at a local dance studio. As she got older, dance became her main focus. By the time she was in middle school she was on an elite, competitive dance team.
Ashley and her family moved to Waco, Texas where she continued being involved with competitive dance, theater and choir in high school. Musical theater really had her heart. She continued to do shows through both her high school theater company and a local community theater.
In college, Ashley was one of 18 selected to be on the McLennan Community College Dance Company and received a full ride scholarship. During her time on the team, they won first place at the NCA Collegiate National Championship. At the same time, she auditioned to perform at the XLV Super Bowl halftime show with the black eyed peas and was selected to be a “cube head” under the choreography of Fatima Robinson.
During her time with MCC she began her teaching journey. She choreographed for local high school dance teams, taught technique through local studios and clinics, and even began choreographing for musicals- her absolute favorite!
After MCC she figured it was time to work for Disney, which had been her dream since going with one of her teams in high school. She applied for the Disney College Program and was accepted. She moved to Orlando, Florida and began the most magical adventure of her life.
After her time at Disney, Ashley continued to study dance at Texas Womens University where she was introduced to the wonderful world of modern, Butoh, true improv and more styles that brought her out of her “dance team box” and helped stretch her choreography skills.
Ashley moved back to Waco where she continued teaching classes at Joys school of Dance and choreographing for local high schools and theaters. She was the stage manager for the 254 dance festival, performed a piece with Out on a Limb dance company in the professionals production and taught a technique class in the skills workshop. Her professional performance experience is full of exciting musicals, commercials, flash mobs and more.
Around this time she met her husband, started a family, moved to Austin, taught dance at Dancers Worksop, other local studios, choreographed competition routines for several local dance companies and FINALLY found a wonderful theater to call home here at SOPA to create and share with all 4 of her beautiful children!
